Gas Burner Troubleshooting

Safety First:

If you smell gas when the burner is off, leave the house immediately and call your gas company. Do not flip switches or use phones inside.

1. Burner Cap Alignment

Remove the burner cap

Clean any debris underneath

Replace, ensuring it sits flat and centered

Misaligned caps prevent proper lighting

2. Clean the Igniter

Locate the small igniter electrode near the burner

Clean with a soft brush or toothbrush

Remove food debris and grease buildup

Do not use water on electric igniters

3. Clear Burner Ports

Inspect the small holes around the burner head

Use a pin or needle to clear clogged ports

Do not use toothpicks (they can break off inside)

4. Dry the Components

If recently cleaned or spilled on, components may be wet

Allow to dry thoroughly before trying again

Use a hair dryer on low for faster drying

5. Check Other Burners

If no burners light, check the gas supply

Verify the gas valve is open

Check if other gas appliances work

Clicking But Not Lighting

If the burner clicks but does not light:

The igniter works, but gas is not reaching it

Clean the burner head and ports

Check cap alignment

Ensure gas valve for that burner is working

No Click At All

If there is no clicking sound:

Check the electrical connection

Verify the range is plugged in

Check the circuit breaker

The igniter switch or module may need replacement
