How Should I Prepare for the Technician Visit?

A few simple preparations help ensure an efficient service call and faster repair.

Before the Technician Arrives

Clear Access:

  • Remove items from in front of the appliance
  • Clear the path from the entry door
  • For refrigerators, consider removing perishables if the unit is not cooling

  • Gather Information:

  • Note when the problem started
  • Document any error codes displayed
  • Write down any unusual sounds or symptoms
  • Have the model/serial number ready

  • Secure Pets:

  • Keep pets in a separate room during the visit
  • This protects both the pet and allows the technician to work safely

  • Parking:

  • Ensure there is accessible parking for the service van
  • Notify building management if visitor parking is required

  • What the Technician Needs

    Access to the appliance:

  • Built-in units may require removing decorative panels
  • The technician will need to access the back or bottom of the unit

  • Electrical access:

  • Know where the circuit breaker is located
  • The technician may need to cycle power during diagnosis

  • Water access (if applicable):

  • Know where the water shutoff is for ice makers/dispensers
  • Point out the water supply line if asked

  • During the Visit

  • Feel free to ask questions
  • Request an explanation of the problem
  • Ask about prevention tips
  • Review the estimate before approving work
