Water on the floor is a drain, almost always
A Viking built-in melts frost off its evaporator on a cycle and sends the water down a trough to a drain line, then to a pan under the unit where it evaporates. If the drain ices at the trough, the next defrost has nowhere to send its water and it comes forward over the compartment lip. Clearing the ice takes minutes. Finding out why it iced — a displaced heater clip, a drain line that has lost its slope, a low compartment temperature keeping the trough below freezing — is the part that stops it happening again in six weeks.
Ice makers
On these units, ice production falls off long before it stops. Working through it in order is what keeps a module from being replaced unnecessarily: supply pressure at the valve, then fill volume per cycle, then whether the fill tube has iced, then whether the freezer is actually cold enough to complete a harvest. A warm freezer cannot make ice no matter how good the module is.
Controls and displays
Where a control board is genuinely at fault the evidence is usually inconsistent behaviour rather than a dead panel — a compressor that will not start on demand, a setting that does not hold, lights that behave differently on each door. Island machine in a condo kitchen was leaking into the cabinet below and we only noticed when the floor swelled. The drain pump outlet hose had split right at the barb. Replaced, the base dried and sealed, and he checked the neighbouring cabinet too.

Fill tube frozen shut for the second winter running. Instead of blaming the house temperature he tested the mould heater, found it weak, and replaced it. The fault has not come back at all.
