Sub-Zero Repair in the North End
North End kitchens are small, and the refrigeration in them is chosen accordingly: 24-inch integrated columns, undercounter drawers, and wine storage built into a cabinet run rather than standing on its own. The equipment is high-end and the room is not generous, which is a combination with its own failure pattern.
Flat $95 service call — the trip and the diagnosis — credited against the repair if you approve one. 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, seven days.
Undercounter units run hotter than people expect
An undercounter refrigerator or wine drawer rejects all of its heat through a grille at the bottom of a cabinet that is closed on five sides. If the surround was built without a return path — and in a retrofit into old cabinetry it very often was — the appliance is drawing back in the air it just warmed. The complaint reads as a cabinet that will not hold its set point, and the cause is joinery rather than refrigeration.
Stairs, and what fits
A walk-up stairway with a tight turn puts a hard ceiling on what can be brought in or taken out. On a repair that matters twice: the part has to come up, and if a unit needs to leave, the route has to exist. Both get established before the work is quoted.
Sea air, four blocks in
Close to the water, condenser fins collect a film that behaves differently from house dust. It does not brush off. Where a unit here has never had its condenser properly cleaned, that is where the diagnosis starts rather than where it ends.

Fill tube frozen shut for the second winter running. Instead of blaming the house temperature he tested the mould heater, found it weak, and replaced it. The fault has not come back at all.

A sheet of ice kept forming across the floor of our under-counter freezer. The drain had silted up with fluff. He flushed it, fitted a new drain clip, and told me how often to pull the vent panel.

Set point drifted up over two days then corrected itself. The controller was fine; the culprit was a door catch letting the seal breathe. Adjusted, and no drift since.
